Robert Perry is well-known for bringing performance to offshore cruising designs and the Lien Hwa built Hartmann-Palmer 46 is testament to his impact on modern-day passage makers. Although most pilothouse/motorsailers come up short in both sailing and motoring performance, the Hartmann-Palmer 46 excels at both. Perry designed boats perform well under sail and the Seamaster 46 is no exception. She has an easily driven hull design with fuller aft sections which aid when motoring. When under power, her 85 HP diesel effortlessly pushes her along at 8 knots. She has a skeg-hung rudder and a modified fin keel, both ideal for cruising.
Copy Cat is an excellent example of this sought after design. She carries 334 gallons of diesel and 400 gallons of water-she truly is a long-range cruiser. Her arch carries 2 wind generators and dinghy davits.
The interior layout is superb. She has large ports throughout the salon and pilothouse which provide excellent views of what is going on outside-even when seated on the settees. Her huge head with separate shower, master suite with walk-around queen, forward cabin with double berth, spacious salon, energy efficient stand-up AC/DC fridge/freezer and inside helm provide all the comforts of home.
Her outside steering station allows the skipper to enjoy the fresh air, while the inside helm permits the skipper to hide from the elements in climate-controlled comfort.
The lower cockpit with transom door and swim platform facilitates diving, swimming and fishing activities.
Copy Cat has undergone an extensive refit over the past five years. She is well-constructed and has benefited from new chain plates, standing rigging, running rigging, arch, new fuel tanks, removal of teak decks, new sails, new furling unit, new stack pack and much more.
The current owner has put a lot of thought, time and money into Copy Cat. She is an excellent option for long term cruising or living aboard.

Salon: Large ports surround the salon which provide excellent views of the outside world. To port of the companionway is a large U-shaped settee with thick cushions and tall back rests. The adjustable table can be raised, lowered and can swivel for easy access. When the table is lowered, the settee converts into a large double berth. The back cushions are used for the filler which eliminates the need to store extra cushions.
To starboard is a straight settee with cabinets on either side.
The Fully-Functional Inside Helm is forward of the starboard settee. The Pilot House inside helm is a boon when the weather turns nasty-or if the helmsman just wants to enjoy the comfort provided by air-conditioning or heating.
The salon floor provides easy entry to the spacious and well-organized Engine Room. The main engine, generator and other mechanical accessories are easy to work on with good all-around access.
The Master Suite is aft and features a walk-around centerline queen with custom memory foam mattress. An additional companionway leads from the master suite to the aft cockpit. A large flat screen TV shares the aft bulkhead. To port is a long curved counter with shelves, drawers and cabinets. A private sink is also to port. To starboard are hanging closets and a full-sized and well-equipped nav station. Additional storage is forward of the centerline berth. Teak battens line the walls both to port and starboard with a teak door at the entrance.
The Forward Stateroom has a Pullman-style double berth with a counter, hanging closest and shelves to starboard. To port is a cabinet with drawers. There is a private door leading to the head. Teak battens line walls both to port and starboard with a teak door guarding the entrance.
The Head is spacious with a generous vanity and a large stand-up shower. The head is an excellent set-up for long-term cruising or living aboard.
Opposite the head is a pantry/closet.
Sails & Sail Handling Equipment
The aft cockpit is closer to the waterline, similar to a power boat and provides for easy boarding and is an excellent platform for fishing or for diving. There are even storage lockers to accommodate dive gear. A transom door provides easy access to the swim platform, the dinghy and the water. The wooden swim platform is solid and well supported.
The aft cockpit also features a separate companionway which provides quick and easy access to the owner's stateroom.
The teak decks were removed, the decks were glassed and non-skid was applied.
A high toe rail, extra-tall stantions, stainless steel handrails and a wide unencumbered walkway around the deck provide a much higher level of safety than seen on most boats.
